We will have a light lunch catered on the fantail of the Little Rock. We will meet in front of the Adam's Mark Hotel at 9:45AM on Tuesday, Oct 5th. We are still working out travel arrangements to the park. If the weather cooperates and some of us feel like walking the park is only four blocks away. We will use the hotel shuttle/van and may need a couple of volunteer drivers to shuttle us over. Upon arrival at the park, we will gather on the fan tail of the USS Little Rock CL-92/CLG-4 and read all of the names of our Buckley shipmates who have been added to the list of "Crossed the Bar" since the last reunion. At this time there are over eighty names. The complete list of "Crossed the Bar" shipmates will be available prior to the event in case some of you would like to also include other shipmates who have passed on that you may personally like to acknowledge and remember. The Naval Park will provide guides as needed. Knowing that most of us remember what a naval ship is like, we should be able to find our way around. When George and I set this up last October, we found that the guides followed us around asking questions. Please allow two hours for the tour of the SS Croaker SS-246, USS Little Rock CL-92/CLG-4, the USS Sullivans DD-537, and the Museum Building. You may wander at your own discretion. - Remember there are tight spaces and ladders. Some of us aren't as young as we remember. - Rest rooms are available on the Little Rock and the Museum Building. As noon approaches, make your way back to the fan tail of the Little Rock where a light lunch will be served. We will present a plaque of the USS Dennis J Buckley to the Naval Park representative to be displayed with other ship plaques and to acknowledge that the crew of the Buckley visited the Park. - Dress comfortably. - Wear comfortable shoes, not hard soles. - Keep any carry-on's light and small. At the conclusion we'll get you back to the Adam's Mark. Hospitality room will remain open the remainder of the afternoon until the Final Dinner approaches. Group Dinner Will include raffles, door prizes, and discussion for the next reunion. NOTE: West Cost Crew Members. Start thinking about stepping up to host a reunion out there. Maybe Bremerton, WA where the Turner Joy is located or San Diego, CA? Hospitality room will be open between tour and dinner and after. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday 10/6/2010Individual breakfasts. There is a convenient meeting area off of the lobby by the restaurant where shipmates can gather and say their good-bys. Will open the hospitality room if need be. Crew departs: For those of you who wish to remain in the area for a day or two after, there is a nice wine country tour available through the Tour Company. Also, for those of you who wish to gamble you can go back to the casino. For those of you who wish to go over to the Canadian side, you will need a passport or special drivers license to get back into the states. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
