James Wesley Null Obituary


PEORIA ~ James Wesley Null, 84, of Long Beach, Calif., passed away peacefully at 8:30 a.m., Sat., Feb. 5, 2011  in Huntington Beach, CA.  He was formerly of Peoria

Born July 16, 1926 in Delavan, IL to Lovel and Mattie (Arnold) Null, he married 3 times and had 1 son born in 1947. His last marriage to Elma Campbell Seldon on Mar.6, 1969 in Costa Mesa, CA lasted for nearly 37 years, prior to her passing on March 1, 2006.  

He was preceded in death by his 3 former wives; 1 son, Warren “Butch” Null; 4 sisters and 1 brother.  

Surviving are his step-son & wife, John & Jeanne Seldon of  Long Beach; 2  grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. 

A WWII vet, Jim joined the navy at age 16, serving 1942-46, and re-enlisting 1948-49. He was also a past master in 1965 of Masonic Lodge 263 in Illinois.  

He worked for Bemis Bag Co. in Peoria and also in Wilmington, CA., retiring as an industrial mechanic after 35 years.  

An avid HAM radio operator W6MRL, he was a regular volunteer in the radio room on the Queen Mary, after it was permanently docked in Long Beach.    

He loved boating, fishing, gardening and helping others  

His memorial service and Masonic Rites will be at 2 p.m., Monday, March 21 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes and Crematory in Pekin.   Burial of cremated remains will follow at Glendale Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
