Robert Heering, 70, father of New Milford woman

Robert J. Heering, 70, of 16 Oxford St., Bethel, husband of Julia (Beck) Heering, died Jan. 30 at the Danbury Hospital. Mr. Heering was born in Danbury Sept. 2, 1930, a son of the late Carl H. and Olga V. (Swanson) Heering. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1948. He entered the United States Navy on March 11, 1949, and served at various locations including San Francisco and Guam. He received an honorable discharge and was recommended for re-enlistment. Upon re-enlistment, he served aboard the USS John R. Pierce and the USS Dennis J. Buckley during the Korean War and received a second honorable discharge in 1953. Mr. Heering was a retired mechanical engineer of the Barden Corporation.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 100 of Bethel and a member of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department No. 8 of Danbury. An avid bowler, Mr. Heering belonged to various bowling teams and leagues over the years. In addition to his spouse of 45 years, he is survived by a son, attorney Robert L. Heering and his wife, Stephanie (McCleery) of Bethel; two daughters, Cynthia Anne Hasulak and her husband, David, of Wolcott and Kimberly Marie Sweeney and her husband, Frederick, of New Milford; a sister, Joan Ziolkowski of Danbury; two brothers, John I. Heering and William G. Heering, both of Bethel; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Richard Heering, Carl Heering and Francis Heering, and a sister, Elizabeth Mannion.

The Rite of Burial will take place today (Friday) at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 125 Kohanza St., Danbury, with the Rev. Joseph Longofono, officiating. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery with military honors.
